In flashbacks, Stefan and Damon recall the long-ago actions taken by townspeople — including their father, Guiseppe Salvatore (guest star JAMES REMAR - Dexter, Sex and the City), and Pearl (guest star KELLY HU - Army Wives, Martial Law) — leading to the devastating events that caused the rift in their relationship. Back in the present, Bonnie's date with Ben (recurring guest star SEAN FARIS) takes a frightening turn. Elena helps Stefan as he and Damon race to find the missing journal that belonged to Elena's ancestor. Stefan learns the reason behind Alaric's (recurring guest star MATT DAVIS) interest in both the journal and the town's history. Damon discovers that an old acquaintance has returned to town with an agenda he understands.

A man named Sylvester Pemberton tracks down Chloe and tells her he knows about her team of superheroes and needs their help. However, before he can explain who he is, he is attacked and killed by Icicle (guest star WESLEY MACINNES). Clark and Chloes investigation leads Clark to the former headquarters of the Justice Society of America where he meets up with Nelson AKA Dr. Fate (guest star BRENT STAIT), Carter Hall AKA Hawkman (guest star MICHAEL SHANKS) and Courtney AKA Star Girl (guest star BRITT IRVIN). Courtney pleads with Hawkman and Dr. Fate to help her catch the killer that is targeting their group, but they are reluctant to resume their duties as superheroes. Clark, John Jones (guest star PHIL MORRIS), Green Arrow and Chloe team up to help the JSA stop Icicle before he murders another member of the group. Meanwhile, Lois receives a package from a mysterious agency called Checkmate, run by Amanda Waller (guest star PAM GRIER).

Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski) have an interview for a local daycare they really want to get into. Andy (Ed Helms) and Erin (Ellie Kemper) work on a welcome song for Sabre as Erin waits for Andy to ask her out. Rainn Wilson, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Angela Kinsey, Phyllis Smith, Oscar Nunez, Creed Bratton, Paul Lieberstein and B.J. Novak also star.

John Winchester is back! The angels send Anna (guest star JULIE MCNIVEN) back in time to kill John (guest star MATTHEW COHEN) and Mary (guest star AMY GUMENICK) Winchester before they can conceive Sam – knowing that if Sam was never born, then Lucifer won’t be able to use him as his vessel. Castiel sends Sam and Dean back to 1978 so they can stop Anna – and the two brothers are reunited with their parents. Mary recognizes Dean as a hunter since he visited her in the past once before but tries to keep the truth from John.

Following Amandas (Paula Malcomson) public revelation that their daughter was responsible for the MagLev tragedy, the Graystones must face the wrath of angry Capricans. For Daniel (Eric Stoltz) this includes a confrontation with Sam (Sasha Roiz) and Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) in which Joseph demands that Daniel reunite him with his daughter's avatar -- the essence of his daughter Tamara (Genevieve Buechner), living on in virtual space. Daniel also realizes he can't deal with his grief in private -- this is all going to play out on a public stage. At the same time, Zoe Graystone (Alessandra Torresani) adjusts to living life in a robot. She hopes her friend Lacy (Magda Apanowicz) will help her escape to another planet -- neighboring Gemenon. Lacy is concerned, however, that she is rousing the suspicions of headmistress (and STO leader) Clarice Willow (Polly Walker). While in V-World, the girls meet a frightened Tamara Adama who doesnt understand what she is or how she came to be here. At the Global Defense Department, Agents Duram (Brian Markinson) and Youngblood escalate their efforts to track down the terrorist group responsible for the bombing.

When Brian tries to expose Meg’s secret to the family, he finds that her boyfriend, Luke (guest voice Chace Crawford), has broken out of jail and has been hiding in the Griffin’s house.
